The 18-year-old former Blessed Trinity pupil hailed the experience as “long, amazing” and most definitely “worth it” as she bowed out on the back of two beautiful performances.

Cody sang Tears For Fears’ haunting “Mad World” before teaming up with mentor Boy George to perform “Imagine”.

Unfortunately, she didn’t receive enough of the public vote to make it through to the final two – Chorley’s Kevin Simm eventually coming out on top.

It had been an emotional week for Cody who was thrown a huge reception by family, friends and supporters outside Sanctuary Rock Bar in Burnley when she journeyed back up north.

“I’ve been missing my family and friends,” she said. “I just miss that way of life. Knowing I’ve got so much support from up north is really lovely and it really spurs me on.”

That wasn’t the last of the surprises either as Boy George took her to visit one of his old friends – Cyndi Lauper.

“We walked into the room and she was just as beautiful as I thought she was going to be,” enthused Cody. “It was really nerve-racking and it was really cool to see her in real life.

“The things Cyndi told me are things I will carry around with me for the rest of my life.”

Speaking after the votes had been cast, Boy George said this was certainly not the end of the road for Cody before implying it may have been a relief for her not to win. “She doesn’t have to sing the winner’s single now which she didn’t want to do anyway, so we’re pleased about that,” he added.
