Keen readers at Colne Park High School are taking full advantage of dedicated reading periods allowing them to focus on reading for up to 35 minutes a day, four days a week.

The school’s Accelerated Reader Programme is thriving with several pupils reading over a million words each, receiving prizes, certificates and entry to the Millionaires’ Club for their efforts and entry to the 100 Club if scoring 100% in an accompanying quiz.

Year 8 pupil Eleanor Atkinson, currently topping the Millionaires’ Club leader board having read over three million words so far this school year, said: “My favourite author is Anne Cassidy. I like reading these books because they are exciting and scary at the same time.”

Year 8’s Jessie Silk said: “Reading is a huge part of everyday life at Park High. I love reading because I can visit a new world, place and time every time I open a book!”
