Students have had double reason to celebrate – as they welcomed an award-winning author and a new library into their school.

Winner of Lancashire Children’s Book of The Year 2013, David Massey, visited Colne Park High School to unveil the new state of the art facility.

The library is part of a major £500,000 investment in the school’s Literacy Programme, which also includes a refurbished English Block.

During the opening ceremony, headteacher Dr Paul Parkin, said: “Park High is putting reading right at the top of the agenda with a dedicated 25 minute reading period every day.

“Although qualifications are of course important, school is also about lifelong-learning and experiences.

“Reading is an essential tool to open up that lifelong-learning and this new library is the cornerstone of our literacy programme.”

And Mr Massey, who also ran a creative writing session at the school, said on Twitter: “Thanks for a great day everyone. Very impressed.”
