West Craven High School students have been involved in the process of choosing the Lancashire Book of the Year.

Year 9 pupils had to read the shortlist of 11 books and vote for their favourite and the Barnoldswick school’s top choice was “One of Us” by Jeannie Waudby with “Frozen Charlotte” by Alex Bell also proving popular.

Pupils went to County Hall in Preston where they met the 11 authors, had a question and answer session, bought books and picked up advice on creative writing.

Chris Tatton, English teacher said: “Books were bought and signed by the barrow full!

“It truly showed how much some young people read today. Critics of young people would be put in their place if they had seen the enthusiasm for literature that I witnessed.”
