CHATBURN’s celebrated ice cream maker has launched a new commemorative version in memory of her late nephew.
Mandy Paul, of Hudsons Ices, has made an ice cream called “The Lions of England” in memory of her nephew, Lance Corporal Jordan Bancroft.
He died from a bullet wound in a firefight with insurgents in Helmand province, Afghanistan, in August 2010, while serving with the 1st Battalion, the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment.
All sales of the new ice cream will be donated to the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment welfare fund.
Kingsman Rory, the mascot for the Dukes, was the first to sample the special ice cream while out and about in Chatburn over the weekend celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with fans who had come to greet him. ITV presenter Ben Schofield was also at the launch, as was Captain John Wilson, from Weeton Barracks Preston, Mr Jeff Ashton, RHQ area secretary, the two Kingsmen in charge of Rory the Lion and Kingsman Brent Lofthouse, of Chatburn.
Mandy said: “The ice cream will be on sale all summer so come on support the Dukes who truly are ‘The Lions of England’!”
