A GOLDEN event is planned at Rolls-Royce Leisure in Barnoldswick as the popular facility celebrates its 50th anniversary.
The leisure centre, on Skipton Road, opened in 1963 after the amalgamation of two facilities in Barlick, the original building where it is today and the former venue on Fountain Street.
An evening of live entertainment is planned in the Trent Lounge for Saturday, March 9th where music will be provided by Damon Noone and Groovy Chic (Lezley Ann Shaw) as they perform a host of from the 60s.
Retired Rolls-Royce employee Blair Duncan has also been collating old photographs and memorabilia to go on display in the week leading up to the celebration event, one which is sure to rekindle some fantastic memories.
Blair said: “It’s been an interesting experience and has certainly evoked lots of memories and interesting discussions trying to identify people in the photos.
“We have even been given a cine film of a Rolls-Royce Rally which we have managed to convert to a DVD. A copy of the Bar Price List from 1975 certainly brought back some happy memories when a pint of mild was just 18p!
“We are particularly keen to find a photo that shows the snooker tables in the Trent Lounge at the opposite end of the room where they are today.
“And hopefully someone may have a picture that shows the Club Steward’s house that was situated behind what is now the Fitness Centre.”
All the photos that have been collected and copied will be on display in the Trent Restaurant at Rolls-Royce Leisure from Monday, March 4th until Friday, March 8th between 7pm –and 11pm and on Saturday, March 9th from 3pm until 11pm.
