Following the success of Grease, Pendle Hippodrome Theatre Group is feeding the area's desire for more musical theatre by staging the rock show Rent in September.

More than 60 people from Burnley, Nelson, Colne and even Manchester turned up to an information evening last fortnight to find out about the production, from ages 18 to 50-something.

Rent is both a musical and book by Jonathan Larson and is loosely based on Giacomo Puccini's opera La Bohème.

It pins together the struggles of impoverished young friends living in New York City's East Village - the shadow of HIV/AIDS looming ahead - delivering a powerful message of tolerance and living without fear.

The whole show is performed through song without any spoken dialogue.

In the director's chair is Josh Hindle while Jack Herbert will take the role of musical director and Helen Cheung will lend her talents as choreographer - the three making up the theatre group's youngest ever production team.
