A monk creates the Lindisfarne Gospels, the body of St Cuthbert is carried across the north, an everyday family struggles to cope with ambitions, life and death.
That all features in “Illumination,” a play by Donna Worthington, directed by Bill Hopkinson and with animations by Helen Newall, which can be seen on Sunday, July 28th, at Blackburn Cathedral at 7pm. The play has been created to celebrate the return of the Lindisfarne Gospels to the North-East this summer.
It weaves visual images from the pages around a contemporary story to bring back those ancient pictures to our churches’ walls.
The production is touring across northern England and Scotland and is written specifically for church settings.
