Painting of iconic Amy hits the right note with legend's mum

A talented artist who painted a stunning picture of tragic pop singer Amy Winehouse has received a seal of approval from her proud mum.

Jayne Brotherton exhibited her large acrylic painting of the famous singer at Burnley’s Howarth Gallery, but was delighted when a Tweet of the picture was retweeted by the iconic singer’s mum Janis.Jayne (52) has now opened her own art business in Nelson with partner Kellie Brotherton and son Daniel Atkinson called Cherry Blossom Art House.The Amy Winehouse painting is currently being exhibited at the Burnley Mechanics’ Theatre until July 4th.Kellie (46) said: “Jayne decided to paint Amy Winehouse back in September for a small exhibit in a local art gallery.“Our friend Kyla Porter, who is a P!nk tribute act, Tweeted a photograph of the painting to Amy’s mum Janis who said it was good and retweeted it.“The painting is very big, 4ft3inx3ft4in, painted in acrylic and framed. It is still for sale and is currently being exhibited at the Burnley Mechanics. “The exhibit will be showing all of Jayne’s and Daniel’s artwork but the Amy Winehouse is the crème de la crème.Amy Winehouse was a world-renowned singer who tragically tragically on July 23rd, 2011, aged only 27 from accidental alcohol poisoning.She was best known for her deep, expressive contralto vocals and her eclectic mix of musical genres including soul, rhythm and blues, and jazz.Her dad Mitch set up The Amy Winehouse Foundation charity, set up in memory of his much-loved daughter to prevent the effects of drug and alcohol misuse on young people.It also aims to support, inform and inspire vulnerable and disadvantaged young people to help them reach their full potential.
