‘Murder at Checkmate Manor’ to be performed in Bolton-by-Bowland

FOR its latest production, Bolton-by-Bowland Drama Group predicts “a night of utter disaster!”

The ladies of The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen’s Guild Dramatic Society are a force to be reckoned with. The sheer scale of their ambition in mounting “Murder at Checkmate Manor” is only matched by their overwhelming confidence in their abilities to master all 14 characters.

Their production is blighted by a series of disasters. The curse of AmDram strikes ... the scenery falls down, sound effects don’t come at the right time, cues are missed and those quick costume changes are just too slow. Through all this adversity the ladies soldier on, determined to provide a good evening out for their audience (which also includes a Film and Fashion Show and Murder Mystery Quiz - complete with prize).

If you’ve been to a “Farndale” show you will know that giggles and hysterical laughter are compulsory... from the audience. The cast, of course, take it all very seriously. The show will be a good night out for anyone who enjoys slapstick comedy, is happy to laugh out loud and who loves to watch other people’s problems unfold before their eyes.

Performances are this Thursday (September 13th), Friday and Saturday at 7-30 p.m. in Bolton by Bowland Village Hall. Seating is cabaret-style with tables and chairs. You are invited to bring your own drinks (including alcohol) if you wish. Nibbles and tea will be provided.

Tickets priced £6 for adults and £3 for accompanied children are available from the village shop and tea room and The Coach and Horses in Bolton-by-Bowland, or from Clitheroe Tourist Information Centre or by phoning Catherine Curry on 01200 447048.
