Next stage in huge house buidling plan for Pendle
The next stage in a huge housing development for a Pendle village has moved a step closer with the acquisition of a second site.
Homebuilder Northstone is moving forward with controversial plans to build more energy efficient family homes across the north west after acquiring its second site in Pendle.
Pendle Today reported that the plans, were first mooted in 2016, were rejected overwhelmingly by Barrowford and Western Parishes Committee after concerns from residents over possible flood risks, but eventually passed by Pendle Borough Council.
Subject to planning permission, the 23-acre plot in Trough Laithe, Barrowford will provide 239 homes ranging from two-bed cottages to four-bed properties to meet local housing demand.
If passed, the homes could be built on green fields stretching up from the Barrowford bypass to Wheatley Lane Road and across to the relatively new Wheatley Springs estate on the edge of Barrowford.
Homes will be suitable for families, first-time buyers and downsizers and 20% of the development will be earmarked for affordable housing needs.
Outline planning permission for the site was granted for up to 500 homes in 2017 while Northstone’s application submitted in December 2019 covers the southern half of the site with access taken from Riverside Drive.
Developers say the scheme, named ‘Keld’ by Northstone, will complement the surrounding countryside and improve pedestrian routes and cycleways for the existing community.
Northstone, part of Peel L&P, will also contribute towards local school provision, highways work at J13 of the M65, and improving public transport in the area.
Furthermore, the development will generate extra income for Pendle Council from council tax revenue and a New Homes Bonus payment – money which can be reinvested into public services.
Northstone homes feature super-fast broadband, electric vehicle charging capability and smart household technology to help residents significantly reduce their energy bills.
Jon England, development director at Northstone, said: “Our plans for our Keld development at Trough Laithe have been carefully designed to consider and complement the countryside and take on board local feedback.
“Homes will be highly efficient to save residents money on fuel bills and will feature pedestrian-led streets to reduce traffic speeds as well as pocket parks and mature landscaping within the scheme to help create a sense of community.”
