Volunteering opportunities available across Burnley and Pendle

several community and charity groups are taking the chance to explain how and why they need volunteers at a special event to mark Volunteers Week on Thursday.

Organised by the Volunteer Centre at Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale Council for Voluntary Service, the event takes place in Burnley town centre from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Building Bridges, the Friends of Greenfield, the Cats Protection League and Coldwell Activity Centre are among the groups hoping to attract more volunteers by attending the event and other groups represented on the day include Age UK, Communities Against Cancer, the Stroke Association and Children’s Society.

The Volunteer Centre will also be represented along with fellow CVS group Carers Contact.

Janette Holden is Volunteer Centre Co-ordinator and said: “We have around 300 volunteering opportunities available at the moment and they range from the usual retail and administrative roles to a variety of other areas including things as diverse as bingo calling and coaching football and cricket.

“Last year we staged a similar event in Burnley which proved to be very popular with both organisations and volunteers and we are sure that there will be a similar response this year.”

The Volunteer Centre has been in operation since 1972 and last year referred over 2,200 potential volunteers to organisations looking for help.
