Scouts from across Burnley and Pendle are prepared for their annual St George’s Day Parade and Promise Ceremony.

More than 600 Scouts and volunteer leaders will meet at St Mary’s RC Church, Yorkshire Street, Burnley, on Sunday, April 26th, at 2-30pm to take part in the traditional Scout’s Own Service which will include the Promise Renewal Ceremony.

After the short service, Nelson Brass Band will lead a parade along Yorkshire Street and down St James’s Street to Curzon Street.

The Mayor and Mayoresses of Burnley and Pendle and Burnley MP Gordon Birtwistle will take the salute at the Band Stand as the parade passes by.

Howard Mitchell, deputy district commissioner, said: “Following last year’s successful Promise Ceremony and Fun Day at Seedhill Athletics Track in Nelson, there is a wish to return to the traditional form of St George’s Day celebration.

“Due to the growing number of Scouts in the district of Burnley and Pendle, it is becoming more difficult to find suitable indoor accommodation for our traditional Promise Ceremony and we are grateful to Fr Peter for hosting our Scout’s Own Service in St Mary’s Church, which is the largest building in the area.

“Anyone who has previously been a Scout will be welcome to join us for this special occasion.”
