A mum and her newborn baby were returned to the safety of their remote Barley farmhouse during yesterday’s snowy conditions thanks to Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team.

The duo were greeted by their waiting family, who welcomed the new arrival home and expressed their gratitude to the rescue team.

A RPMRT spokesman said: “If you ever wondered why we volunteer to help out the community in East Lancashire, then this call out should explain everything – not a mountain in sight, just helping our community.”

The heartwarming gesture formed part of a busy day for RPMRT, who were put on snow cover sue to the adverse conditions.

Other jobs included a team providing first aid to a woman who had collapsed due to a cardiac arrest. They helped until the ambulance reached the scene, and could take the patient to hospital.

The team continued to have 4x4 ambulances out overnight in the continued inclement weather.
