A temporary flood defence system built on Boxing Day by an army of volunteers is set to be replaced with a more permanent bund in the next few weeks.
The barrier along Skipton Road in Barnoldswick was hastily put together to prevent a huge mass of water from cascading across the road and flooding the Ghyll Meadows estate.
Coun. David Whipp said: “Engineers at Pendle Council have designed a scheme and contractors will be submitting prices which are due back next week. Myself and colleagues got the area committee to allocate £12,500 to the project and Barnoldswick Town Council has pledged to contribute as well. Hopefully, the price will be affordable from these two funding sources.
“This would at least give some protection against a flash flood in the meantime. We’ll also be glad to remove the temporary sandbags!”
