A Pendle village which has been without a post office for more than 12 months will have a new facility later this year. Post Office bosses said the Barrowford facility, which closed in February 2015, looks set to re-open inside Park Newsagents at 136 Gisburn Road, 350m from the former post office, which was previously run inside the Spar shop.
A consultation period to allow residents to respond to the proposals has been launched and will run until April 21st.
The Post Office said the new counter will have extended opening hours and will be open seven days a week.
Simon Drinkwater, Post Office regional manager, said: “We understand how important having a post office is to residents in Barrowford and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.
“This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office.”
The shake-up has seen several post offices in Pendle move premises. The Nelson Leader reported earlier this year how Fence Post Office moved into Fence Village Store, in Wheatley Lane Road. While, in Nelson, the Belle Vue branch, in Leeds Road, was set to move into the nearby Spar shop.
