The vice-chair of Old Laund Booth Parish Council has self-published a book in memory of his dad and in a bid to help boost a Fence fund.

Gavin Roper is hoping “The Three Rabbits” will help The Fence Friends Park Fund in their mission to raise more than £70,000 for a new village play area.

The family book is based around three rabbits during the Christmas period.

It is around 20 pages, with illustrations by pupils from Wheatley Lane Primary School.

Gavin said: “My dad would make up a bed time story called The Three Rabbits about Hop Skip and Jump. I think I was the only boy that wanted to go to bed to hear about what the three rabbits were up to.

“One day near Christmas he wrote out the story and gave me the copy to read to my little boy Harvey Roper.”

The Fence Friends Park Fund committee was formed in September 2013.

It was set up since the playground in Fence is in need of urgent refurbishment.

Many residents have thrown their weight behind the fund-raising, with many events being held - including a Rodeo Reindeer Challenge, black tie evenings and special tribute evenings.

“The Three Rabbits” is now available by contacting Gavin directly or visiting Wheatley Lane Primary School or Fence Village Store. It is priced at £5 and only 250 copies are available to purchase.

The books will be sold on Sunday from 2pm to 5pm at The Sparrowhawk.
