Burglar will be sentenced for Ribble Valley hotel and property thefts

Blackburn magistrates heard after being blocked from entering the second room Adam Carl Vickerage climbed up a fire escape and tried to get in through a window.

Vickerage (32), of Kingscliff Road, Birmingham, pleaded guilty to burglary of a room at the Calf’s Head and theft of five rings and perfume worth £750, attempted burglary of another room and burglary at Abbey House and theft of computer equipment worth £1,000. He was sent on bail to Preston Crown Court to be sentenced on January 4th.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said Vickerage had checked into the Calf’s Head in a drunken state on November 2nd. Staff saw him leave at 8-30 pm and return half an hour later.

Guest Sarah Lawrenson, who lived across the road, went out at 8.30 pm and when she returned 20 minutes later found her Apple Mac Pro had been stolen.

A guest at the Calf’s Head, Janet Powell, went out for the evening and when she returned at 10.30 pm discovered an untidy search of her room had been carried out and items stolen.

Another guest, Michael Osbourne, was in his room when Vickerage knocked on the door and then tried to push his way in.

“Mr Osbourne was able to push him away but half an hour later he tried to climb in through the window and Mr Osbourne had to push him away again. The police were called and found all the stolen property in his room.”

Vickerage, who had no previous convictions, told police he couldn’t remember anything because he was so drunk. He told the court; “What I have done has sickened me, it was completely out of character.”
