Burnley's new dementia unit opens
The refurbishment of the 20-bedroom wing focused on ensuring a dementia friendly environment throughout and the staff team and residents were pleased to be joined by Mayor of Burnley Coun. Jeff Sumner and Coun. Margaret Brindle. The opening and attendance of the Mayor made the day extra special for one particular resident at Victoria Care Home, Jessie Farrar. Jessie knows the Mayor from when he was a young boy and their meeting was an opportunity for them both to reminisce about past times.
Victoria Care Home encourages strong links with the local community, as such students and teachers from Ridgewood Special Needs School attended the opening also and enjoyed a homemade buffet courtesy of the home’s chefs.

As a member of the Health Scrutiny Committee at County Hall, I know that Victoria has had many challenges in the past few years, but with the dedication and commitment of the staff, the management and the new owner, Victoria has surpassed all my expectations in raising standards.
“The tasteful décor, the residents’ rooms with en-suite facilities and the lounges are a delight – what a transformation.”
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has rated Victoria as ‘Good ‘in its standard of caring and management leadership, and the commitment to driving up standards is self-evident.
