PROPOSALS for the introduction of business parking permits on car parks around Nelson town centre go before councillors on Monday.
Pendle Council’s Nelson Committee will discuss proposals to issue permits - a maximum of two per business - for car parks in New Brown Street, Every Street and Cuba Street at a charge of £140 a year.
A report to the meeting says this will address the need for long-stay parking in the town centre, after a survey indicated the Goitside car park was not seen as suitable for business users.
The three car parks have 65 spaces in total currently used for short-term parking. The report says the introduction of a permit scheme would increase the provision of long-stay parking in the Cross Street area and encourage new businesses to the town centre by offering business permits, assisting with the revitalisation of the town centre.
