A BODY SHOP estimator from East Lancashire has finished second in a national competition to discover the best BMW-accredited estimators.

David Magill from Fence - who works for John Macadams and Sons - came second out of more than 250 UK estimators. This follows on from last year when David finished fourth, and colleague Lee Beharrell came third in the same competition.

For his second-place finish, David wins a trip to Munich.

The top 10 qualifiers were shortlisted before travelling to BMW Thorne in Doncaster for a live estimate, and a questionnaire covering the practical use of the BMW Technical Information System.

David was tested on his technical knowledge as well as their customer handling, sales and engineer negotiating skills.

David said: “Last year both Lee and I were obviously delighted to finish so highly in a prestigious national competition. But secretly, I was itching for this year’s competition and the chance to finish even higher. It’s friendly rivalry between Lee and I and I’m sure next year he’ll want to beat me again too.

“The best thing about the competition is that it rewards everything that is best about estimators’ skills. Accuracy and consistency are important to us all here at Macadams. We enjoy our work and I think that shows in the standard of results our customers enjoy.”

The results were especially well received at Bowker BMW on Trident Park in Blackburn who use Macadams exclusively for all their body shop work.

For Bowker BMW, service manager Stewart Rose said: “After his third place last year, congratulations to David on going one better this year. Ongoing training and testing is something we’re all familiar with at Bowker BMW. And it’s true for our subcontractors too. We enjoy a very close working relationship with Macadams. And we’re delighted their outstanding professional service has been recognised once again.”
