Nelson and Colne markets are launching a competition for affordable, healthy recipes to feed four people, costing no more than a fiver.
“Anyone feeling the pinch after the festive season should take part in the £5 challenge,” announced Coun. Jennifer Purcell, who leads on public health for Pendle.
“People can enter by sharing a recipe for a meal for four using good quality affordable ingredients you can buy at Nelson or Colne market,” she said.
Details on how to enter are on Pendle Council’s website www.pendle.gov.uk/markets or pick up a recipe and competition slip at either of the markets.
People can also email their recipe, including a list of ingredients and quantities for a meal for four, to email@example.com
Pendle Council, which runs the markets, has teamed up with the borough’s own affordable food guru, Gill Watson, for the campaign.
Gill worked as personal chef for Pierce Brosnan and a range of demanding clients from celebrities to supermodels.
She now lives in Pendle, running the food charity Pendle Helping Hands and she’ll judge the competition.
Gill said: “Enter the competition and you could win bags full of market produce worth £50 to help keep your family healthy this winter.
“For recipe ideas you can visit my Facebook page: Budget Cooking with Gill Watson.”
The specially designed cotton market bags have been made and supported by Razmataz of Colne.
Markets Manager Ian Varley added: “We’ve plenty of good food and great ingredients at our markets, from health foods like nuts and pulses, to fresh fruit and vegetables, cheeses and meats.”
Two winners will be chosen on Friday, January 30th and two more on Friday, February 27th.
