The Earby Churches Together group has paid tribute to its retiring treasurer after more than 20 years service.
Hilda Jopson reflected on both the good times and the bad in her 21 years in the role during a speech at the group’s annual general meeting.
She is succeeded by Brendan O’Donoghue, of St Patrick’s RC Church, who has a background in finance and Mrs Jopson was acclaimed by all present for her generous and gracious long service.
Also speaking at the dinner was the Chief Executive of Pendleside Hospice, Helen McVey, who gave a full and moving account of the work at the hospice does, emphasising that it is not just in the final weeks of life but that it has a far wider remit for both individuals and families.
Chairman David Hartley said: “Hilda has been in the role for an amazing length of time. She has been dedicated and very efficient. I’m very pleased we could recognise that.”
