PENDLE Council’s Development Management Committee has agreed to the demolition of the rear kitchen and store of a house in Berkeley Street, Nelson, and the erection of a new single-storey extension.

The application from Mr Z. Nabi had originally been approved by the council’s Nelson Committee against the recommendation of planning officers and was referred to the development committee as the decision was regarded as a significant departure from council policy.

Councillors on the area committee had argued the defendant wanted to build an extension similar to others in the street and no neighbours had objected, and their opinion was upheld by the development committee.
