THE food waste collection service introduced by Pendle Council in certain parts of the borough in April last year should be suspended, a report to Thursday’s meeting of the council’s Executive recommends.

Pendle is one of only four areas in Lancashire to operate such a scheme - at a cost of £100,000 a year - but the report says Lancashire County Council is carrying out a review of its waste strategy cost sharing and indications are the transfer of any food waste from Pendle to a waste park in the Preston area would be costly.

The Executive is recommended to suspend the scheme from the end of October - the same date people will be allowed to mix paper and cardboard waste to improve that part of the recycling seervice.
