Pendle schools claimed two of the three prizes on offer at an annual Rotary Technical tournament at Nelson and Colne College.
The hosts won the advanced level category, Haslingden High School the intermediate level and Colne Primet the foundation level.
Sponsored by BAE Systems, students used their skills to build a bridge which supported a truck weighing 1kg, allowing passage over the river and ship canal.
The intermediate and advanced level groups had the additional challenge to create a section in the bridge, capable of rising and lowering to allow a ship to pass along the ship canal.
Event organiser Geoff Atkins said: “The Mayor of Pendle Coun. Nawaz Ahmed presented the prizes and MP Andrew Stephenson’s visit was appreciated by students and Rotary members, supporting investment for apprenticeships in applied technology.
“The Rotary clubs in our area would like to thank Nelson and Colne college for all the support, given by their staff to make the tournament a success.”
