The boss of a popular Pendle restaurant, Jeffrey Latham of JJ’s Café Bar Restaurant, Colne, has died suddenly.

Mr Latham (67), who was born in Haggate in 1947, the son of Lena and Winston Latham, previously ran a corner shop at Haggate crossroads; ran a car autobody repair garage in Barkerhouse Road, Nelson, and was steward at Nelson Golf Club for 10 years until realising his dream of opening his own restaurant.

JJ’s Café Bar Restaurant in Albert Road opened in 1998.

He was married to Janet for 46 years. They married in Woodhouse, Sheffield, where Janet comes from originally.

The couple had two children – Michael James Latham (43) and Victoria Lena Whalley (32). He also leaves four grandchildren. Jeff was youngest brother to Marjory and Raymond.

During his time as steward at the golf club, he took up the sport and played until a broken wrist stopped play. He also loved fishing, especially in Tenerife.

Daughter Victoria said: “Dad was famous for his hospitality at the restaurant, and love of a good ‘do’! He was often found dancing on the bar top there on New Year’s Eve!”

On Tuesday, Jeff’s funeral is taking place at Skipton Crematorium. Close family members will leave the restaurant at 2-30pm and the sevice at Skipton is at 3pm.
