WELL-KNOWN engineer John ‘Bernie’ Beaton has died suddenly after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.
Mr Beaton (59), of Brook Street, Earby, was taken ill during a holiday to Scotland last year, but his condition left doctors baffled. Just four weeks ago he was told he had Motor Neurone disease, an illness which attacks the body’s nervous system.
Last week he was admitted to hospital where he died.
He was born and brought up in Earby, where he lived all his life, and attended primary school in the town. He trained as a car mechanic after leaving Barnoldswick Secondary Modern School – now West Craven High School - and later joined Earby Light Engineers where he worked for 30 years.
John later joined P&R Precision Engineers at Foulridge before taking early retirement.
Together with his wife, Lynn, he travelled the world on holiday and was enthusiastic about wildlife and the countryside. He was also a member of Earby Conservative Club.
His funeral will take place on Friday at All Saints’ Church, Earby, at noon followed by a cremation at Skipton Crematorium at 1pm. Arrangements by Windles on 813345.
