A Colne couple have celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary, with the happy pair ringing in the special occasion with a get-together attended by five generations of the family.
Eric Counsell and Lilian Counsell (née Stevens) were first married 70 years ago at Colne Parish Church on June 29th 1946 and despite having moved away to Manchester in their time as a happily married couple, they have retained strong ties to the areawhere they were born.
When the timeless couple first met, Eric was an apprentice joiner who lived on Bamford Street in Nelson, while Lilian lived on Boundary Street in Colne, placing the destined pair barely two miles apart.
In Manchester, Eric worked as a woodwork teacher, while Lilian was a social worker.
Eric and Lilian, who celebrated their anniversay on Wednesday last week, were joined at the festivities by various members of their family, which spans five generations.
The couple have four children themselves, as well as nine grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
