FOUR Colne taxis have been taken off the road in an operational aimed at improving safety and travel standards.
Pennine Road Policing Unit teamed up with taxi enforcement officers from Pendle Council and VOSA to carry out random checks on taxis in the town centre.
A total of 18 taxis were stopped and checked and four were taken off the road after they were found to have tyre defects.
A further four had minor problems which were fixed at the roadside.
Sgt Gareth Hill said: “This operation is all about safety, both for the driver and their passengers.
“Taxi drivers have a big responsibility for the safety of their passengers and other road users and it is important to regularly check the taxis on our roads are safe and legal.”
The team will be carrying out similar operations in future.
