A COLNE woman is taking part in a charity walk in memory of her brother who died last year from cancer.

Lisa Thornton (39) will take on the Midnight Walk from Burnley Football Club in July to raise funds for Pendleside Hospice.

The hospice has a special place in Lisa’s heart as they cared for her brother, Nick Boult, before his death in August last year aged 40.

Nick, who lived in Huddersfield, only became ill the month before his death, complaining of back pain.

He was diagnosed with widespread cancer in his lung, bones and liver.

His family arranged for him to move to Colne to be near them in his final weeks and contacted Pendleside Hospice for support.

Nick and his family were supported by the Hospice at Home team, who provided round-the-clock care.

Ironically, Nick was a volunteer in the Kirklees Hospice Shop in Huddersfield and, despite his diagnosis, remained determined to fight his illness.

Lisa, of Melling Court, said: “It meant everything to have the support of the Hospice at Home team during Nick’s last days and the Midnight Walk is a great opportunity for me to give something back and to thank the hospice for the wonderful care he received.”

Lisa will be walking with her sisters, Debbie and Ceri, who are coming over from Wakefield for the event and her 17-year-old daughter Charlotte.

The Midnight Walk is a ladies only sponsored walk of five or eight miles and starts at midnight on Saturday, July 2nd, from Burnley Football Club.

The walk takes in areas of Burnley and Pendle, with Wavelengths at Nelson the half way point, before returning to the football club. In the lead-up to the start of the walk local radio presenters will be warming up the crowd of 2,000 ladies along with a Robbie Williams and Take That tribute act.

Entry fee for the walk is £10 and includes a Midnight Walk T-shirt, refreshments and entertainment. Those who complete the walk will also be given a medal and certificate.

To take part in the walk register online at or call 440120. Anyone wanting to sponsor Lisa can also contact the hospice on the above number.
