A GROUP of cricketers from Colne are set to take on a gruelling challenge to raise money for their struggling club.
The gallant team, made up of forty members and players, will run 47 miles from Blackpool to Colne to raise as much money as they can for Colne Cricket Club.
Club committee member Michael Wrigglesworth said: “We are hoping to raise some extra revenue to help reduce some of the significant debt the club has incurred over recent years, ensuring its continued presence in the community for years to come.”
In the light of the club’s financial problems, the committee resolved at the beginning of the year to hold a series of fundraising events.
The first of these, the Hit for Six fun day, held in June, was a great success and received great support from members of the public.
Committee members hope that the run, which will take place on Sunday, October 9th, will once again rouse community support.
Michael said: “Our cricketers are going that extra mile and doing their bit to save the club and we hope members of the public will help by sponsoring them.
“Our target at the moment is to raise between £1,500 and £2,000 but if we exceed this it would be fantastic.”
The cricketers will take part in a relay from Blackpool to Colne, each running as far as the can before passing on to the next participant who will take on the next leg.
The men will dress in cricket whites and padding for the final stretch, crossing the finishing line together at the cricket club.
Supporters are welcome to come along to the club in Byron Road to watch them cross the line. A buffet will be put on and drinks will also be served.
Anyone wishing to take part in the run, or donate money to the cause by sponsoring the cricketers, should contact Michael on 07738 055004.
Sponsorship forms are also available from the cricket club.
