Police say Morgan Ellis also went through a red light when a lot of pedestrians from a school were about.

On one day, a mum was pushing a pram with a baby in it very near to where he was speeding and doing a wheelie. The 19-year-old had been disqualified just weeks before, but claims he didn't know, Burnley magistrates were told.

Ellis, from Padiham, had been on a day-time curfew before his court appearance, to stop him doing it. But the Bench has now barred him from travelling in any vehicle save as a fare-paying passenger instead, while he awaits sentence next month.

Ellis, who broke the ban several times in one day, has owned up to 24 traffic allegations committed in Burnley.

Prosecutor Mrs Tracy Yates told the hearing police saw the defendant on an off-road type bike. He wasn't wearing a helmet.

She continued: "It was around 3.30pm and he was pulling wheelies and speeding off in the direction of a school at finishing time."

Mrs Yates added: "He was banned on January 31st. The starting point is 12 weeks custody."

Mr Mark Williams, defending, said Ellis was current to the probation service. He had never been to custody.

The solicitor added: "He says he didn't know he was disqualified. It was a totting up disqualification for six months in late January. He says he did not know anything about that. He does know now."

Ellis, of Beech Street, Padiham, admitted eight counts of driving whilst disqualified, on February 22nd and March 12th, 21st, 23rd and 24th, nine allegations of no insurance, six counts of driving without due care and attention and one of failing to stop when required by a constable.

The defendant struck on Reservoir Street, Burnham Gate, Colne Road, Padiham Road, Dryden Street, Briercliffe Road, Sharp Street and Burnley Road, Burnley.
