Nelson man Liam O’Callaghan pleaded guilty at Pennine Magistrates’ Court to stealing two bottles of alcohol from Money Save Store in Colne in November last year.

O’Callghan (27), of Belgrave Street, said he did it as a dare as he was at a friend’s house and took the bottles of Sourz back to the party but didn’t drink any.

The defendant, who did have a record but was said to have cleaned up his act in the last 12 months, admitted it was a “childish act” and was ordered to pay £93.98 in costs and compensation.
