Police are appealing for help to identify a man after a schoolgirl was approached and touched inappropriately on her way to school.
The 13 year-old was walking through the subway between Gala Bingo and Burnley Bus Station at about 7-50am yesterday (Tuesday) when she was approached from behind by a man.
He grabbed her arm and then put his hand up her skirt and touched her bottom.
He made off after he was disturbed but was seen a short time later appearing to follow a second schoolgirl.
The man is described as white, possibly eastern European, 6ft tall, short dark hair, wearing a khaki green parka coat with a fur hood and white drawstrings, black trousers and white trainers.
He was carrying a distinctive black and white rucksack with a camouflage design.
Det. Sgt Paul Barlow, of Burnley CID, said: “This was a distressing incident for this young girl and I would appeal for anyone who knows who this man may be to get in touch with us.
“Thankfully incidents like this are relatively rare. We are treating it extremely seriously and have increased uniform patrols in the area to reassure people.”
Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting log number 0403 of Tuesday, December 6th or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers.org.
