Three men using charity buckets to collect in Nelson have been charged by police with fraud by false representation.
Bilal Shabbir (25), Hussain Ali (25) and a 17-year-old who cannot be named, all from the Bradford area, were arrested by police after purportedly collecting for a charity in Chapelhouse Road, Nelson, on Thursday afternoon. All three have been remanded in custody.
Insp. Paul Goodall said: “We would urge people to not pay out money to doorstep collectors but to always check identification thoroughly. This applies to people collecting in the streets and town centres as well.
“If you are suspicious of a charity collector, report it to 101 and it will be investigated.”
