Police make three arrests in connection to Brierfield shooting

Detectives investigating an incident in which a man was injured in a suspected firearm discharge in Brierfield have this morning made three arrests.

Police were called at around 7-10pm on Wednesday (March 10th) to the report of an altercation and a weapon being discharged on Humphrey Street, Brierfield.

The victim, an 18-year-old man, suffered facial injuries and remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

Police believe the discharge of the firearm followed an altercation on the street and may be linked to an incident a short time earlier at the nearby Morrisons Daily store on Colne Road.

Following a number of enquiries three people have been arrested as part of the investigation.

A 34-year-old man from Burnley has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and possession of a firearm with intent; a 37-year-old man from Burnley has been arrested on suspicion of attempt murder, conspiracy to commit murder and possession of a firearm with intent; and a 32-year-old woman from Brierfield has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and assisting an offender. All three remain in custody at this time.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for information and are keen to hear from anybody who has any dashcam or CCTV to get in touch.

Det. Chief Insp Jane Webb, from Lancashire Police said: “While we have now made three arrests our investigation remains very much ongoing and we continue to have a dedicated team of officers working to bring all those responsible to justice.

“This was an extremely serious incident and the victim is very lucky to have survived the attack. Our thoughts remain with him and his family at this extremely distressing time.

“We appreciate that this incident will understandably have caused some concern in the community and so I would like to reassure people that we have stepped up patrols in the area. Please approach an officer if you have any information or concerns.
