Firefighters were called to extinguish a fire involving rubbish in an alleyway, which had spread to the guttering of a house in Vernon Street, Nelson.

One fire engine from Burnley was called to the incident just before midnight yesterday.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue said: "Firefighters used one hose reel to bring the fire under control. No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation."
