A football fan was arrested and charged after allegedly setting off a smoke bomb inside Turf Moor.

The incident happened shortly after the 3pm kick-off during Saturday’s Premier League match involving Burnley and Swansea City.

Smoke could be seen rising from the away end in the David Fishwick Stand.

Swansea City fan Mark Stevens (26) of Shirley Road, Southampton, was arrested and charged with possession of a flare inside a football ground.

He was bailed to appear at Burnley Magistrates’ Court on March 13th.

Burnley were beaten 1-0 in the match in front of 17,388 fans including more than 1,000 who made the trip from South Wales.

The match ended in a disappointing defeat for the Clarets who now travel to Anfield on Wednesday evening to play Liverpool.
