Update: Nelson fatal fire police investigation launched

A joint investigation between Lancashire Police and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service is underway following a fatal house fire at a house in Nelson.

Police were called by the fire service at shortly before 2am today to reports of a fire at a house in Princess Street.

Sadly the body of a man believed to be aged in his 40s was found in the house.

Inquiries are on-going to try to establish the cause of the fire and the man’s cause of death, which is currently unexplained.

Efforts are underway to identify the deceased and to contact his next of kin.

Det. Supt Lee Halstead, of Lancashire Police, said: “The investigation is very much in its early stages and so will be working closely with the Fire Service to determine exactly how this fire has started.”
