POLICE in Nelson are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a mum was assaulted in the town on Friday, April 29th.

The incident took place on Reedyford Road between 1 p.m. and 1-30 p.m. when the 24-year-old woman was pushing her five-month-old daughter in her pram.

She heard someone shout to her and turned around and was punched in the face.

The offender then punched her again, causing her to fall to the ground before she kicked her in the head, causing the victim to have a bloody nose and cut lip.

PC Michael Godkin said: “I would urge anybody that witnessed this assault to come forward.

“We know at least three vehicles stopped to help the victim, but, unfortunately, they did not phone in or leave their details, so I would urge those people to contact police as they could be vital witnesses.”

An 18-year-old woman and 30-year-old woman from Nelson have both been arrested on suspicion of Section 47 assault, and are on police bail pending further inquiries.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 08451 253545 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
