A solider said to have been “significantly injured” in Afghanistan was arrested after he was abusive to police in the street, a court heard.

Declan James Lee had been having an 11.25am altercation when officers turned up.

Lee, who has never been in trouble before, was accompanied to Pennine Magistrates Court by an officer, who told the Bench the defendant was a “consummate professional” who had been significantly injured.

Lee (23), of Wordsworth Road, Colne, admitted being drunk and disorderly on North Valley Road, Colne, on May 3rd. He was given a 12 month conditional discharge, with a £15 victim surcharge, £85 costs and a £150 criminal court charge.

Prosecutor Mrs Alex Mann said: “He might have underlying problems at the moment, which are leading to drinking and disorderly behaviour.”
