Nelson and Colne College’s social football team are celebrating reaching the finals of the Lancashire FA College Recreational League.
The 11-a-side team consisted of students from across the curriculum including IT, Business, Health and Social Care, Science, Engineering, Sport and A Levels.
They put in strong performances throughout the league season, beating Wigan and Leigh College and Lancaster and Morecambe College in the group stages, before triumphing over Burnley College in the semi-final. However, they were beaten in the final by West Lancashire College.
College Sport Maker Alexis Walker said: “These students had not played together as an 11-a-side team before this league, and some students had never even played for an 11-a-side team before in their life.
“I am so proud to see how the students have developed in skill, confidence, communication and team work both on and off the pitch.
“Watching friendships blossom and seeing the players grow is why I do what I do. I love that sport is a tool for bringing people together, and impacts on the development of people in so many ways.”
