Taster day for would-be cyclists in Pendle

PENDLE-BASED bike club Cycle Sport Pendle have organised a taster day at Seedhill Athletics Track. Nelson, on Sunday.

Working with Pendle’s Healthy life styles team, the club will be at Seedhill from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be opportunities for young riders aged six to 16, ranging from a mini mountain bike course to skills training and fun races and even a slow bicycle race!

Riders aged 12 and above will be able to ride with the club’s older members at the adjacent Nelson and Colne College.

A course and skills session will be run there by club coach Alan Gornall, Commonwealth games gold medallist and former Great Britain international. Alan said: “This will be an ideal opportunity for teenagers who what to take a look at our club and see how our young riders have developed, many are now racing at regional level.”

Clive Escreet, Pendle’s healthy life style manager, added: “We are delighted to be working with CSP. Cycling is growing tremendously fast and our led rides are very popular. This will be a great opportunity to see how the club develops its young members and to show the fun side of cycling as well as the competitive pathways available.”

There is also an opportunity for 30 youngsters to pass level 1 Bikability. Club coach Kirti Greyson will lead a team of coaches and pass on some useful riding skills. Riders must be over 9 years old and have a bike and helmet in good condition. Parental consent forms are required so children must be accompanied and all riders will be presented with a Bikability certificate. To reserve one of the 30 places, call the club on 862855 (evenings) or 619916 (day).
