Months of preparation will come to an end for one loving Colne sister tomorrow as she hosts a family fun day.
Charlene Healy (26) has been working with her partner Scott Olsen to organise an event for Ward 84 of Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital - who looked after her brother Lamarno when he was diagnosed with a brain tumour in December, 2012.
Lamarno (13), who lives in Bolton, has undergone an intense course of treatment at the hospital, and now Charlene wants to raise as much money as possible to show her appreciation.
The “Let’s Kick It For The Kids” event will run from noon to 6pm tomorrow at Colne and Nelson Rugby Club. It will be officially opened by the Mayor and Mayoress of Pendle, Coun. Graham Roach and Joanna Sagar.
It will include a bouncy castle, refreshments, face painting, professional balloon art, a pamper nail package, an auction, games. a disco, and live entertainment.
Sainsbury’s and Morrisons have donated sweets to go in candy cones and freebies will also be being handed out on the day.
There will also be a retro funky dress theme for anybody wanting to get dressed up in green and grey.
Mum-of-one Charlene said: “It is going to be a great day for everyone and I am excited to dress up and raise lots of money. We are looking forward to it.
“We have put hundreds of hours into this - our emotions and our hearts.
“My little girl Summer-Rose Healy will be getting all dressed up for Lamarno.”
Charlene has thanked everybody who has supported her in organising the event, including Colne resident Matthew Eyre and local councillors.
Donna O’Reilly, from Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity, said: “We are incredibly grateful that Charlene has chosen to fund-raise for Ward 84, our children’s cancer ward.
“Money raised will make a real difference to the treatment, care and research of our young patients like Charlene’s brother, Lamarno. We wish her every success for the fun day, it sounds like it will be a great event for the whole family to enjoy.”
