Fire beaters used to put out Barrowford blaze

Firefighters had to travel on foot to reach a blaze in Barrowford yesterday.

Crews attended a small rubbish fire in Lower Laith Drive, off Wheatley Lane Road, at 7-32pm.

One fire engine from Nelson was attendance, and fire beaters were used to put out the flames.

A Lancashire Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “The firefighters were at the scene for some time as they had to travel on foot some distance to reach the fire and then extinguish it with the use of wild fire beaters.

“This meant that the fire engine was in attendance for quite some time.”

While there are no specific laws against having a bonfire, or when you can have one, there are acts that deal with the nuisance they can cause.

Anybody unsure about what can be burnt can contact Burnley Council and ask about recycling options.
