Fire crews rushed to put out a bonfire in a Colne back yard when it became a danger to property nearby.

The owner of the property off Green Road, had decided to burn wood and other materials in his yard on Saturday evening but fire crews felt that, due to the flames’ proximity to property, it had to be extinguished.

Nelson firefighter David Harris said: “There aren’t specific laws against having a bonfire, or when you can have one – but there are Acts that deal with the nuisance they can cause.

“A controlled burn can also result in fire engines attending that but may be required elsewhere.”
