Fire crews spent an hour battling a house blaze in Barley this morning.

Two fire engines from Nelson were called to the scene of the blaze in Barley New Road at 5-30am.

The ground floor of the property was heavily smoke logged and crews wearing two sets of breathing apparatus used a hosereel to fight the flames.

A ventilation fan was also required at the scene.
