Three fire crews were called out to a fire at a derelict Nelson pub which is believed to have been started deliberately.

Firefighters from Nelson and Burnley were called out to the blaze at the Marsden Cross in Higher Reedley Road shortly after 1-30pm on Saturday.

They were joined by an aerial ladder platform from Hyndburn to help tackle the flames which started on the first floor.

The fire upstairs burned through the floor causing flames to spread to the downstairs lounge area of the former pub.

Six firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used two hose reels, two ventilation units and ladders to gain proper access and extinguish the fire.

Severe damage was caused to parts of both the first floor and ground floor and an investigation into the cause of the blaze has now been launched.
