Firefighters cut free van driver after early morning smash

A man had to be cut free from his van after hitting a wall in the early hours of this morning in Barnoldswick.

Fire crews from Barnoldswick and Earby were called to the incident at Salterforth Lane at just before 2-15am and worked to free the trapped and injured van driver.

They used hydraulic equipment to free him and assisted paramedics in administering first aid prior to him being taken to Airedale General Hospital at Steeton by ambulance.

Mark Strickland, watch manager at Barnoldswick Fire Station, said it is believed the man sustained head injuries during the crash, but they are not thought to be life threatening.

Police closed the road for several hours following the crash to clear the scene and recover the vehicle.
